Barbara FeldmanDecember 12, 1944 to May 31, 2001. Barbara Feldman was one of the first teachers of secular Fertility Awareness in the US. I was privileged to have her as my teacher, mentor, and friend.
Here are some pictures of a young Barbara, maybe from her early 20's. In the photo taken in front of the apartment buildings, Barbara is on the right, in the red dress.
Here is Barbara teaching Fertility Awareness, probably sometime in the '80's.
Anyone who studied with her will remember "the line." She used this line of numbers to demonstrate a key concept of FA: whether or not any given act of intercourse can lead to conception depends entirely on when it takes place in the cycle in relation to ovulation.
Ah, the days before PowerPoint :) Here Barbara is teaching anatomy and physiology, and perhaps how spermicide works, judging from the box of contraceptive foam at her feet.
Barbara was also a public school teacher. She must have been great at it.
Here are some pictures of Barbara with her friends. If you're in these photos and would like to be identified, please let me know.
Here is Barbara with Jeannine Parvati Baker (on left) and her partner Lawrence (on right). And here is a picture of me and Barbara, shortly before her death in 2001.
